Baseball fans think in the great legendary player, Reggie Jackson, and his NY Yankees career.  Nonetheless if you are a longtime fan you know that his stellar career started way prior to the time he became a Bronx Bomber.  He was referred to as “Mr. October” due to his excellent capability in making key hits inside the post season games he played in.  He had five (5) Globe Series games under him with three of them consecutive though actively playing with the A’s and two even though playing with the Yankees.  He is considered one of baseballs most accomplished players in his generation too as others.

Jackson Enters the League

Jackson played his first Majors game though for the A’s roster, and he helped it result in the total victory.  Shortly after the A’s produced the move to Oakland, and have remained there ever since.  Their very first victory for the A’s was a success and had the team enjoying the Jackson years, this is when Reggie started to develop his consistently high level playing which helped characterize his career.  Throughout the 1969 season Reggie brought home 50 runs, keeping a lot of baseball fans watching and waiting to see if he would break the 61 property runs record that Roger Maris held.  But Reggie fell short  by fourteen home runs that season, but it kept fans occupied and took their attention most of that year.

The Controversy

Actively playing the way he did and with the results that he did, it would only be natural that Reggie, or “Mr. October” came to expect a pay boost.  Nevertheless, the owner on the A’s did not see it that way, he saw things inside a diverse perspective.  He even took it as far as letting Jackson know that if he kept persisting on a pay increase he might wind up finding himself sent down into the minor league, a sort of punishment for his actions.  It was the League Commissioner who kept Reggie there about the A’s team, he did end up being sent to minor league in Puerto Rico, only to return and rejoin their roster, back using the A’s.  In 1971 Reggie returned to the A’s and they had been in their Series Champs run, once they won 3 consecutive Planet Championship games in ’72, ’73, and ’74.  Other then the NY Yankees, the Oakland A’s were the only other group who managed to win three (3) consecutive World Series Championship titles. And even though Reggie got injured through the 1971 Series, and he did not play in that year, he went on to make up for that once they played the following two Series.  He was the instrumental reason for the two up coming wins, he was even named MVP in the ’73 Series.

Reggie went on to support the A’s win the Division the subsequent 12 months, however he went no where while using ALCS.  The team had a down 12 months in 1976 and also the owners made that fateful choice that they would trade Reggie towards the NY Yankees.  They decided they’d rather trade him than to meet his demands that they anticipated from his Free of charge Agency for a salary increase.  Numerous Jackson fans will recall him as Mr. October with the NY Yankees, but numerous fans from Oakland usually remember those championships with the Oakland A’s.
